We are pleased to announce that OCMUN 2011 will be held at the University of California, Irvine on Saturday October 15, 2011!
May 5, 2011
Dear Advisers and Head Delegates,
The Secretariat of Orange County Model United Nations (OCMUN) is excited to announce that we will be offering our Second Annual OCMUN Conference this fall. We are thrilled to announce a new partnership with the University of California at Irvine (UCI) this year for OCMUN 2011. The conference will be held at UCI on October 15, 2011.
The theme for OCMUN 2011 will be “The Role of Diplomacy in an Uncertain World.” This year has already seen two regime changes in North Africa and several others under threat. Also, a new country is about to become the 193rd Member State of the United Nations in South Sudan. These new changes will test the international community and the role each Member State plays in the protection of sovereignty and the use of diplomacy to solve regional and global problems. We challenge all delegates to keep this theme in mind during your negotiations at the conference and beyond.
OCMUN 2011 will be hosting the following committees:
· General Assembly 3rd Committee;
· World Health Organization;
· United Nations High Commission for Refugees;
· African Union;
· Group of 20; and
· United Nations Security Council.
The topics will be selected for these committees in the upcoming months. The Security Council and G-20 are required double delegation committees and are designed for intermediate and advanced delegates. The other committees will be single delegations and designed for novice delegates who are beginning the MUN process. OCMUN 2011 will be a collegiate-level conference only.
OCMUN is excited to partner with UCI’s MUN program this year. Rebecca Stillman, the adviser of OCMUN at Golden West College last year left the school, which resulted in the partnership between OCMUN and UCI. Both groups are looking forward to the conference and will strive to provide a quality and educational experience for all delegates.
We sincerely hope that you will join us for OCMUN 2011. Committees, short and long rules, and other registration information can be found on our website (www.ocmun.org). If you have any questions about our conference this year or would like to register, please do not hesitate to e-mail us at orangecountymun@gmail.com.
Sincerely,
Mark Edwards Stephanie Romano Ingrid Huizar Tersea Neighbors
